R for Text Mining in Social Sciences

The analysis of large amounts of text becomes attractive for the Social Sciences by easy available digital  text data collections and (semi) automatic analysis algorithms. To be able to fulfill the requirements of Social Science research and to respond on individual needs, we also work with the statistical programming language R. We are able to test theoretical and technical foundations of computer-aided text analysis on sample data sets and algorithm prototypes in R and discuss  possibilities of their integration into a broader research process. In addition to the practical testing of new methods, the use of R is a quick and easy access to established Text Mining algorithms. This allows us to quickly generate a mutual understanding of ideas and methodologies together with domain experts, e.g. social scientists.
